How to open an elevated command prompt in windows 7/8/8.1

Command prompt is a powerful feature of windows operating system. Command prompt allow us to run programs, change settings and access files. Some commands needs administrator privileges. So we have to run command prompt in administrator mode or in elevated mode.

Methods to open elevated command prompt :

Method 1 - Run from start menu :
  • Open Start Menu OR press windows button.
  • Click on All programs and then on Accessories OR type cmd in search box.

  • Right Click on the command prompt and select "Run as administrator".
  • When you select User account control will appear.

  • Click Yes.
  • Finally elevated command prompt will display.
Method 2 - Run from keyboard shortcut :


  • Open Start menu.



  • Type cmd in search box.



  • Press ctrl+shift+Enter.



  • User account control will appear.



  • Press Yes.



  • Elevated cmd will display as shown in below screenshot.
