Researchers at university of Georgia, Artificial Intelligence laboratory and MIT's Computer Science Department develop a software that can change any smartphone into eye tracking system.
To making exciting applications of eye tracking more accessible the system may enable new computer interfaces or help detect signs of incipient neurological disease or mental illness. They develop this software by a new technique known as machine learning, in which developers train computer to perform task by analyzing on patterns.
The eye tracking system works in a very simple manner. It flash shows a small dot on smartphone screen to get users intention and then changes to "R" or "L"which instruct user to tap right or left. While tapping it ensures that users attention shifted to some location and front camera of smartphone capture images.
Researchers going to describe their system by presenting research paper on june 28 at computer vision and pattern recognizing conference.
